Where to buy 35mm film online: 7 stores
These picks come from what film photographers on forums and film blogs recommend when someone asks where to buy 35mm film, filled out with independent camera shops that sell online. Camera Dojo has not ordered from them to judge service or freshness. We read the store listings we could open on October 28, 2026 (B&H and Freestyle blocked our reader, so they have no prices here). Every price below is dated, but stores change them often.
- 01
B&H Photo (New York City)
One big order of mainstream film from a seller with high turnover
Not listed: B&H pages could not be read on Oct 28, 2026
B&H is the first store named in a Photo Forum thread on where to buy 35mm film online. One member switched to B&H after Amazon sent rolls only a few months from expiry, saying its stock is fresher, and a camera store and lab employee in St. Louis said they would buy film there if they didn't work at a shop.
Watch out: Lens Lurker notes that B&H closes every Saturday for religious reasons and takes no online orders then, and it reported free shipping from $50 in 2023, so confirm the current threshold at checkout.

CineStill online store (Los Angeles)
Eastman Kodak's new boxes at low, clear prices
$8.49 to $18.49 for a 36-exposure roll (Oct 28, 2026)
CineStill sells Eastman Kodak's own line: Kodak Gold 200 at $8.49, Ultramax 400 at $9.99, Tri-X 400 at $8.99 and Ektar 100 at $14.99 for 36 exposures, plus Ektacolor Pro 160 ($12.99) and 800 ($18.49). It also stocks its own 800Tungsten ($17.99) and Ilford HP5 Plus ($9.49). The Gold 200 3-pack is $22.95, about $7.65 a roll.
Watch out: Popular Kodak films run out: single rolls of Ektacolor Pro 400 were due back in November 2026, Ektachrome E100 was expected November 27, 2026, and the 100 ft Tri-X bulk roll was out of stock.

Film Photography Project store
Rare, specialty and house-brand films
$9.99 a roll for Derev Pan black and white (Oct 28, 2026)
A Photo Forum thread and film guides both point to the Film Photography Project store, which ExpertPhotography says stocks over 350 films. Its 35mm section covers Svema, FPP, Kodak, Lomography and rare films, and black and white rolls such as Derev Pan 100, 200 and 400 cost $9.99 each. It is based in the US and ships internationally.
Watch out: Its 35mm range leans toward niche and rare stocks, so look up a film's speed and processing needs before you buy a batch.

Midwest Photo (Columbus, Ohio)
Cheap black and white film
From $6.99 a roll (Oct 28, 2026)
Midwest Photo had the cheapest 36-exposure roll in this October 28, 2026 price check: Kentmere 100 at $6.99. If you shoot black and white, it is a good store to compare first.
Watch out: Some films are limited to 50 units per customer or household per 30 days, and the store says "in stock" status does not guarantee fulfillment.

Glazer's Camera (Seattle)
Portra and Ektacolor Pro 5-packs, plus low Fujifilm 400 prices
$8.49 to $17.99 a roll; 5-packs $83.95 to $87.95 (Oct 28, 2026)
Glazer's lists both Kodak boxes side by side: a 5-pack of Kodak Portra 400 at $87.95 and a 5-pack of Ektacolor Pro 400 at $83.95. Its Fujifilm 400 was $11.49 a roll, the lowest of the four stores in this check that listed it, with Gold 200 at $8.99 and Kentmere Pan 400 at $8.49.
Watch out: Portra 400 5-packs are limited to 10 units per customer or household every 7 days.

Watch out: Its site banner says free shipping over $99, but its delivery page says free expedited shipping over $49 in the contiguous 48 states, so check which applies at checkout.

Freestyle Photo
Bulk film you spool into your own cassettes
Not listed: Freestyle pages could not be read on Oct 28, 2026
ExpertPhotography notes that Freestyle sells bulk film: with a bulk loader you can roll your own 35mm cassettes for less than factory rolls cost. That suits people who shoot a lot of film.
Watch out: You need a bulk loader and empty cassettes before the savings start, and Freestyle's current prices could not be read for this guide.

Portra 400 or Ektacolor Pro 400: why Kodak film now comes in two boxes
Shop for Kodak film online in 2026 and you will see two sets of boxes. Eastman Kodak now distributes its own still film (Gold 200, Ultramax 400, Ektar 100, Ektachrome E100, Tri-X, Kodacolor, Ektapan and Ektacolor Pro), while Kodak Alaris still distributes Portra and its other Kodak films under a license to use the Kodak name. The two lines co-exist on the same store shelves; the new boxes did not replace the old ones.
The confusing part is Portra. Kodak Alaris owns the Portra and T-Max names, so Eastman Kodak sells its versions as Ektacolor Pro 160, 400 and 800, aimed at wedding, portrait and commercial photographers. Capture magazine calls them refined versions of the Portra family. 35mmc says they certainly look like the same emulsions, but neither Kodak company will officially confirm it.
For buyers, the practical difference is price and stock. At District Camera, a roll of Ektacolor Pro 400 was $16.95 against $18.49 for Portra 400; at Glazer's, the 5-packs were $83.95 and $87.95. When Eastman Kodak's Kodacolor 100 and 200 launched, they cost about $1 less in the US than the Alaris equivalents, but Kosmo Foto doubts big price drops in the short term.
If a listing is vague, catalog numbers help: Kodak lists 7518251 for Gold 200 in 36 exposures and 7518285 for Ultramax 400 in 36 exposures, and District Camera lists the Portra 400 5-pack as 6031678.
If Portra 400 is sold out or limited, look for Ektacolor Pro 400; at both stores in this check that carried the two, the Ektacolor box was cheaper.

Can you still buy 35mm film at CVS, Walgreens or Walmart?
Yes at some stores, but the choice is small and stock depends on the location. Walgreens lists Fujifilm 200 ($11.99), Fujifilm 400 ($12.99) and Kodak Ultramax ($12.99) online with same-day delivery (the Ultramax listing also showed pickup), marks shipping as unavailable, and warns that prices and inventory vary between online and in store. Fujifilm 200 and 400 are the two color negative films on Fujifilm's US consumer film page.
That convenience costs a little: the same Fujifilm 400 roll was $11.49 at Glazer's. At Walmart, Lens Lurker's 2023 guide found only color negative 35mm film and no black and white. One r/filmphotography poster wrote that they could not find places that carry 35mm film other than CVS, and Shotkit confirms CVS sells and develops single-use cameras; CVS's own site could not be read, so call your store before going for loose rolls.
To find a camera shop instead, Kodak runs a store and lab locator for shops that sell Kodak film. If Woolworths shows up in your search suggestions, that is an Australian supermarket chain; in the US the quick stop is a drugstore or a local camera store. Developing at the big chains is a separate question, covered in Can you still develop film at CVS, Walgreens or Walmart?.

How to choose where to buy 35mm film
The same roll can cost very different amounts depending on the store. On October 28, 2026, Fujifilm 400 ran from $11.49 at Glazer's to $17.00 at Lezot Camera, a $5.51 gap on one roll.
- 1
Batch rolls to the free-shipping line
Lens Lurker only buys film online when the order earns free shipping, and buys a roll or two in person. Thresholds ran from $49 at B&C Camera (and on District Camera's delivery page) to $199 on most orders at CameraX; six rolls of Gold 200 at $9.49 ($56.94) clear a $49 line.
- 2
Buy from film shops, not marketplaces
Most film on Amazon comes from third-party sellers, and one forum member got rolls only months from expiry before switching to B&H. Lens Lurker usually skips eBay for new film as too much work for minimal savings; old rolls there are their own gamble, covered in Shooting expired film.
- 3
Check limits and backorders before a trip
Glazer's caps Portra 400 5-packs at 10 units per 7 days, Midwest Photo caps some film at 50 units per 30 days, and Unique Photo reserves the right to limit film orders. B&C Camera says surging demand has caused occasional shortages, so order well before a trip.
- 4
Compare cost per frame, not per box
Gold 200 at $8.49 for 36 frames is about $0.24 a frame, Portra 400 at $18.49 is about $0.51, and Kentmere 100 at $6.99 is about $0.19. The film cost per photo calculator adds developing; Lens Lurker's January 2023 survey put buying, developing and scanning a roll of color at $27, or $0.75 a photo.
- 5
Ask your lab, and store film cool
Many photo labs now sell film online alongside mail-in developing, which keeps buying and developing with one company. Once film arrives, keep it cool: Kodak recommends 55F (13C) or lower for Ektar 100, though it says this is not required.

Which 35mm film to put in your first order
If you are not sure what to order, start with a cheap consumer film and branch out. Gold 200 and Ultramax 400 are Kodak's consumer color films, Kentmere and HP5 Plus cover black and white, and Portra or Ektacolor Pro is the step up for portraits. The table lists the lowest in-stock 36-exposure price seen for each stock on October 28, 2026; for help choosing, see the film stock guide.
| Film | Type | Lowest in-stock price seen | Where |

Questions people ask
Does CVS sell 35mm film?
Some stores do, but stock varies and CVS's website could not be checked, so call ahead. One r/filmphotography poster wrote that they could not find places that carry 35mm film other than CVS, and Shotkit confirms CVS sells and develops single-use cameras. Walgreens is easier to check online: it lists Fujifilm 200, Fujifilm 400 and Kodak Ultramax for same-day delivery.
Sources: reddit.com, shotkit.com, walgreens.com
Does Walmart sell 35mm film?
Some stores do, with a narrow choice. Lens Lurker's 2023 guide found only color negative 35mm film at Walmart and no black and white. For black and white, order from a film shop: Midwest Photo had Kentmere 100 at $6.99 and CineStill had Ilford HP5 Plus at $9.49 on October 28, 2026.
Sources: lenslurker.com, mpex.com, cinestillfilm.com
Is it safe to buy 35mm film on Amazon?
It is hit or miss. Most film there comes from third-party sellers rather than Amazon itself, and a forum member who got rolls only months from expiry switched to B&H for fresher stock. A reply in the same thread points out that processing costs the same whether the film is good or bad, so paying for fresh film is the safer bet.
Sources: lenslurker.com, thephotoforum.com
Is Portra 400 discontinued?
No. Kodak Alaris still distributes Portra 400, and stores list it next to Eastman Kodak's Ektacolor Pro 400, which carries a new name because Alaris owns Portra. At District Camera on October 28, 2026, Portra 400 was $18.49 a roll and Ektacolor Pro 400 was $16.95.
Sources: kosmofoto.com, districtcamera.com, districtcamera.com
Why is it so hard to buy 35mm film?
Demand has surged, which B&C Camera says has led to occasional shortages. Stores respond with purchase limits, such as Glazer's 10 units per 7 days on Portra 400 5-packs, and some stocks go on backorder: CineStill expected Ektachrome E100 on November 27, 2026.
Sources: store.bandccamera.com, glazerscamera.com, cinestillfilm.com
How much does it cost to get 35mm film processed?
Dwayne's Photo starts at $7.50 to develop a roll of 35mm color film, and The Darkroom starts at $14 with scans, plus $6.95 round-trip shipping. Cultured Kiwi lists Walmart at $7.96 for 12 exposures up to $13.96 for 36, with the entry price including 4x6 prints, and a St. Louis lab charged $15.90 to develop and scan in 2025. See [how much it costs to develop film](/developing/cost-to-develop-film/) for a full table.

Where can I buy bulk 35mm film?
Freestyle Photo is the store ExpertPhotography names for bulk film you load yourself with a bulk loader. CineStill lists Kodak Tri-X 400 in a 100 ft bulk size, but it was out of stock on October 28, 2026.
Sources: expertphotography.com, cinestillfilm.com
Does anyone still make a 35mm film camera?
Yes. Glazer's Camera lists the new Pentax 17, a half-frame film camera, at $499.95 and a Kodak ISO 800 single-use camera with 27 exposures at $16.49, checked October 28, 2026. See the guide to [half-frame cameras](/cameras/half-frame-cameras/) for more on how they work.
