Fujifilm FinePix: which models to buy used and what they cost

The short answer

A used Fujifilm FinePix is worth buying if you want the 2000s CCD digicam look, and the F10, F30 and F31fd from 2005 and 2006 are the models reviewers rated best in dim light.

Used FinePix compacts (a Z5fd and an F50fd) were listed at $88 and $105 on Poshmark in October 2026, and The Phoblographer put the F10 at $75 to $130 on eBay in February 2025.

Is a used Fujifilm FinePix worth buying? The short version

FinePix was Fujifilm's digital camera brand from 1998, and Fujifilm no longer really uses the name. The cameras people hunt for now are the F-series compacts with Super CCD sensors: Trusted Reviews said the F30 had the best high-ISO picture quality of any compact on the market, and the F10 and F30 are CIPA-rated at 500 and 580 shots per charge.

The catch is age and storage. The sought-after 2005 and 2006 models take only xD-Picture Cards, which top out at 2 GB, and owner questions on iFixit include lens errors, broken battery doors and cameras that will not power on. If you are new to these cameras, start with what a digicam is.

Good fit if

  • You want the CCD-era digicam look with Fujifilm's saturated color, straight out of the camera
  • You shoot indoors or at night and want the compacts reviewers rated best in low light back then (F10, F30, F31fd)
  • You want long battery life: the F30 is CIPA-rated at 580 shots and the F10 at 500
  • You want aperture or shutter priority in a pocket camera (F11, F30, F31fd)
  • You want a cheap way in: a TalkPhotography poster says FinePix cameras on eBay are all dirt cheap

Think twice if

  • You want to use SD cards: the F10, F20, F30 and F31fd take xD-Picture Cards only
  • You need a wide-angle lens: the classic F-series zoom starts at 36mm, so look at the F100fd or F200EXR (28mm) instead
  • You shoot in bright sun and want a viewfinder: the F10 has none, and reviewers found the F10 and F11 screens hard to see in sunlight
  • You need decent video: the F10 records 640 x 480 clips, and reviewers called the sound on some models tinny or noisy
  • You want support from the maker: Fujifilm's page for the F200EXR is marked discontinued and lists no specs or manual

Which Fujifilm FinePix models to look for

These are the FinePix compacts our sources cover in most detail, oldest first. The 6.3 MP Super CCD models from 2006 (F30, F20, F31fd) are the ones reviewers praised for low light; the 12 MP F50fd that followed is sharper but weaker at high ISO. Sources disagree on the F10's year: Wikipedia and The Phoblographer say 2005, iFixit says 2006.

What reviewers and owners say about the Fujifilm FinePix, topic by topic

We sorted 152 opinions about the Fujifilm FinePix from 83 pages and videos on 17 websites and channels. Each row shows how many people raised a topic and how many of them were positive. Open a row to read short quotes, each linked to its source.

Most opinions here come from reviews written when these cameras were new (2005 to 2014) by CNET, Trusted Reviews, Imaging Resource, Neocamera, Photography Blog and others. Owner voices come mainly from 2005 and 2006 Flickr groups and iFixit repair questions, so the reliability complaints show what breaks, not how often. Reddit, DPReview and eBay could not be read. The five video reviews cover S-series bridge cameras and a rugged XP130, not the slim F-series compacts.

  1. Image look54% positiveof 26

Mostly positive: CNET, Imaging Resource and Trusted Reviews praised rich, saturated Fujifilm color on the F30, Imaging Resource found the F100fd's color and exposure good, and an owner calls the F31fd's detail tremendous. Not everyone agrees: Reviewed's lab scored F30 and F31fd color as dull or under-saturated, and Trusted Reviews found the Z20fd's standard mode massively over-saturated.

    • “Most of my pics are way too blue, and it's a bit disappointing you can't set the white balance on the AUTO mode”

POOR IMPULSE CONTROL, Flickr FinePix F11 group 2005-12Owner

    • “the one i got its doing what i need defo has nice colours”

      Talk PhotographyOwner

    • “Provia is the default setting with natural but gently oversaturated colors.”

      NeocameraHands-on review

    • “Times have changed, though, and 6.3MP Super CCDs don't impress like they used to.”

      Imaging Resource 2006-05Hands-on review

  2. Low light and flash44% positiveof 18

The F-series' big selling point: CNET, Digital Trends and Trusted Reviews rated the F10 and F30 standouts in dim light, and Imaging Resource called the F30 downright great at ISO 800. The negatives are mostly later or budget models (F50fd, F550EXR, Z33WP, Z70), plus Reviewed's lab, which found the F30 disappointing.

    • “Overall, the low light performance of the Fujifilm FinePix F30 is very disappointing.”

      ReviewedHands-on review

    • “The natural light setting is awesome.”

silent cup, Flickr FinePix group 2006-09Owner

    • “What all this means is that while ISO 1600 and 3200 may be just okay on the F30, ISO 800 is downright great.”

      Imaging Resource 2006-05Hands-on review

    • “Low light focusing is outstanding, but it lacks the high-ISO quality of its predecessors.”

      What Digital CameraHands-on review

  3. Ease of use61% positiveof 18

Mostly praised: fully automatic, quick to start and focus on the F30 and F31fd, with logical menus. Complaints are slow start-up on the F40fd, slow shooting on the F60fd, a zoom ring on the F200EXR that moves too fast, fiddly J10 controls and no manual focus.

    • “They both lack a diopter adjustment and neither has a manual focus, so you're really at the mercy of the autofocus”

      misterjones, The Photography Forum 2025-01Owner

    • “The F31fd springs to life quickly, with fast and accurate focusing.”

      What Digital CameraHands-on review

    • “It starts fast, zooms fast, focuses fast and has very little shutter-lag.”

      NeocameraHands-on review

    • “Initial set-up is a snap and the onscreen menus are logical and easy to read.”

      Digital TrendsHands-on review

  4. Build quality67% positiveof 15

Mostly praised: reviewers liked the metal bodies of the Z1 and F20 and the sturdy rugged XP models. The negatives are owner reports of snapped battery-door catches on XP70 and AX665 cameras and a slippery F50fd with no grip.

    • “The Battery door wont stay shut as the black tab that is on top of battery compartment has broken off.”

      iFixit Answers 2021-04Owner

    • “when it gets wet, sandy or just down right nasty I pull out our Fujifilm FinePix XP10.”

Love The Pic Photography, Flickr FinePix group 2006-08Owner

    • “The build quality of the Z900EXR is very good.”

      Photography Blog 2011-07Hands-on review

    • “It’s a solid-feeling camera with an all-metal body.”

      CNET 2005-07Hands-on review

  5. Screen and viewfinder36% positiveof 14

Mostly negative: the F10 has no optical viewfinder, reviewers found the F10 and F11 screens hard to see in bright sun, and the Z1's screen turned grainy indoors. The F10's screen did earn praise for showing almost exactly the whole frame.

    • “Everything shows on screen but when I go to take a picture the image is not being displayed.”

      iFixit Answers 2023-10Owner

    • “There were problems indoors as well with the screen getting very grainy.”

      Digital TrendsHands-on review

    • “The Z800’s 3.5-inch LCD touchscreen is a huge selling point and makes for easy previewing.”

      CNET 2010-09Hands-on review

    • “Indoors, the screen is bright, with good contrast, but colors are a bit understated compared to the actual captured tones.”

      Imaging Resource 2007-09Hands-on review

  6. Reliability today8% positiveof 13

The weakest topic, but it comes from repair questions, not failure rates: iFixit owners report lens errors after drops, autofocus that will not lock, stuck or broken doors on rugged XP models and clocks that reset. Reviewed reported a 2005 Fujifilm service advisory for defective CCDs in the A303, F410 and F700.

    • “the camera just quit in the middle of an outing”

      iFixit Answers 2020-04Owner

    • “I read a lot of user reviews saying the XP20 failed after getting wet two or three times.”

      CNET 2011-10Hands-on review

    • “The door also had trouble closing again because of what looked like a problem with the catch.”

      Photography Blog 2011-04Hands-on review

    • “The battery and sd card cover will not open. It is stuck closed.”

      iFixit Answers 2017-04Owner

  7. Video23% positiveof 13

Weak, as expected for the era: the F10 and F200EXR record 640 x 480 clips, small microphones pick up tinny sound or camera noise, and CNET rated the XP30's 720p video very poor. The F30 and F550EXR got better marks.

    • “Video quality is very poor, despite being at 720p.”

      CNET 2011-06Hands-on review

    • “The video quality is quite good with crisp details and fluid motion.”

      NeocameraHands-on review

    • “The Fujifilm FinePix F10 has a decent movie mode, but its nothing to get excited about.”

      ReviewedHands-on review

    • “It’s good enough for a quick clip, but don’t throw away your Mini DV camcorder just yet.”

      Digital TrendsHands-on review

  8. Price and value100% positiveof 11

Uniformly positive: reviewers called the F10, F20, J110w and Z20fd good value when new, and owners report bargains such as an SL300 bought for 5 pounds at a charity shop.

    • “A nice, inexpensive, and quality compact camera, good for taking everywhere with me”

Bekah Stargazing, Flickr FinePix group 2006-08Owner

    • “the SL300 that I bought from a charity shop for all of £5, gave me some pictures with which I am very happy.”

      Talk PhotographyOwner

    • “This is one of those rare cameras that’s both cheap and good.”

      CNET 2009-03Hands-on review

    • “For its price point then the Z800EXR puts on a showing that is certainly good enough.”

      Photography Blog 2010-09Hands-on review

  9. Batteries and charging67% positiveof 9

Positive, especially for the 2005 and 2006 F-series: the F10 is CIPA-rated at 500 shots and one F11 owner says the camera lasts roughly forever between charges. Later models are only average, and some batteries must come out of the camera to charge.

    • “It's a nice tidy camera and also easy on the batteries”

      K's Photo's, Flickr FinePix group 2006-09Owner

    • “Life of the battery is very good although it does get a hammering when the GPS is switched on.”

      Photography Blog 2011-04Hands-on review

    • “The battery is rated 500 shots using the CIPA standard, far better than most cameras on store shelves.”

      Digital TrendsHands-on review

    • “I know that the batteries cannot be charged inside the camera.”

      iFixit Answers

  10. Memory cards and transfer22% positiveof 9

Mostly negative: xD-Picture Cards cost more than SD, not every reader takes Type M cards, one F11 owner had to buy a slow Fuji USB 1.0 reader, and a forum member called the adapter needed for USB a drag. Later models with a dual slot that also takes SD avoid the problem.

    • “Fujifilm doesn't sell original USB cables as a replacement (not sure if they ever did).”

      iFixit Answers 2024-01Owner

    • “I had to buy a card reader from Fuji, that happens to be USB 1.0 and takes ages to send the images to the computer.”

      infinite.light, Flickr FinePix F11 group 2006-01Owner

    • “One sensible option however is the dual-format memory card slot, which can accept SD, SDHC and xD-Picture cards.”

      Trusted Reviews 2008-01Hands-on review

    • “You have to make sure the card reader works with M cards, not all do.”

ralph and jenny, Flickr FinePix F11 group 2006-01Owner

  11. Size and weight67% positiveof 6

Positive: owners and reviewers call the F11, F31fd, F60fd and F100fd easy to carry everywhere, though the F40fd and F900EXR are noticeable in a pocket.

    • “a little camera is also a vantage to walk light and shoot discreetly.”

      infinite.light, Flickr FinePix F11 group 2005-11Owner

    • “It’s easy to use and while not the slimmest on the market, it’s still pocketable.”

      What Digital CameraHands-on review

Which Fujifilm FinePix series should you look for?

Fujifilm split the FinePix line by letter. The F-series is the one people chase: from 2005 it was known for low-light performance, and Imaging Resource says the F10 set the foundation that the F31fd built on. The Z-series (from 2005) is the slim ultra-compact line, and the A-series (from 2001) and J-series (from 2008) are entry-level point-and-shoots.

The S-series are bridge cameras with long zooms, such as the S1800 with an 18x lens that runs on four AA batteries. They suit zoom fans more than pocket shooters. Rugged XP models are waterproof, and owners on iFixit report their battery doors snapping, sticking or filling with sand.

Not every FinePix has the same kind of sensor. Some A-series cameras use standard CCDs and others Super CCD, and Fujifilm moved to CMOS sensors in 2011. For the same era from other brands, see our best vintage digicams and cheap digicams.

Super CCD or plain CCD: which FinePix gives the look?

Wikipedia says the 6th-generation Super CCD HR in the F20, F30, F31fd and F40fd is widely credited for class-leading low-light ability. The 12 MP sensor in the F50fd is sharper but has significantly weaker high-ISO performance, and Trusted Reviews thought the F40fd, not the F50fd, was the true successor to the F31fd for high-ISO quality.

The Light Slide disagrees. Its writer prefers the plain-CCD F450 Zoom from 2004 for its "vintage CCD colors" and the look of 35mm consumer film, and is harsh on Super CCD for building resolution through interpolation. That criticism is old: a Trusted Reviews writer remembers Fujifilm sending out booklets explaining why the megapixel count mattered less.

Most of the praise for the Super CCD cameras is about low light, so if you want clean pictures indoors without flash, the 2006 F30 and F31fd are the safer bet. If you shoot mostly in daylight or with direct flash, the plain-CCD F450 Zoom has at least one fan: The Light Slide's writer, who paid $20 for one.

How to get the digicam look from a Fujifilm FinePix

These tips come from reviewers who shot the F10, F30 and F450. More direct-flash recipes are in our Y2K digicam look guide.

  1. 1

    Pick a color mode

The F10 has standard, chrome and black and white modes. Standard is a little less saturated, chrome is punchier, and a Trusted Reviews writer said chrome makes pictures look like they were taken in 1975.

  2. 2

    Play with white balance

The Phoblographer says varying the white balance on the F10 can give a distinct film-like quality. Auto white balance can miss: an F11 owner found many auto shots came out too blue.

  3. 3

    Use the flash on purpose

The F10's flash reaches about 6.5 m at wide and 4 m at tele, and The Light Slide says both fill flash and full flash on the F450 give a vintage snapshot look. The F30 has a natural light and flash mode, which takes two shots in succession and which Imaging Resource called a great concept.

  4. 4

Keep ISO at 800 or lower for clean files

Imaging Resource called ISO 800 on the F30 downright great and ISO 1600 and 3200 just okay. If you like grain, What Digital Camera called the F30 at ISO 3200 pretty ropey but no worse than ISO 3200 film.

  5. 5

Take the flash off auto if exposure compensation seems dead

On the F10, exposure compensation is disabled while the flash is in automatic mode, which can look like a broken control.

Which memory card and battery does a Fujifilm FinePix take?

The F10, F20, F30 and F31fd take xD-Picture Card only. Olympus and Fujifilm launched xD in 2002, sold it in 16 MB to 2 GB sizes and phased it out in 2009. The F40fd was the first F-series model to take SD as well (but not SDHC), and the A900 and F200EXR also accept SD.

Buy the card and the reader together. Wikipedia warns that later Type M and Type H cards may have compatibility problems with some older cameras, and an F11 owner says not every reader handles M cards. Fujifilm never released a microSD adapter for its xD slots, though Olympus did for some of its own cameras. The F10 can also send files over USB through its terminal adapter.

Batteries differ by model, so check the code before you buy a spare. The F10 and F30 charge their battery inside the camera. Neocamera called the F10's terminal adapter the clunky way to do it and says the F30 does not use one, though Imaging Resource lists a terminal adapter in the F30's box. Neocamera also says Fujifilm sold an external charger for the F10 as an option, which helps if a used camera comes without its adapter.

What to check before buying a used Fujifilm FinePix

Most FinePix compacts people want date from 2004 to 2010, and the faults owners report are predictable. Check these in person or ask the seller for proof; our cheap digicams guide covers buying used digicams in general.

  1. 1

    Power it on and zoom

The lens should extend and retract smoothly. iFixit says a lens stuck part-way usually follows a drop, and an F20 owner got a zoom error after a fall. A lens error on power-up can sometimes clear after a restart.

  2. 2

    Open the battery door

Look for cracks and a catch that holds. iFixit's Z1 troubleshooting page lists a cracked battery door, and on the F10 the door also covers the xD slot with no latch, so the battery can fall out when you change cards.

  3. 3

    Ask for test shots

For the F410, F700 and A303, a 2005 Fujifilm service advisory covered CCDs that can give a purple cast or black frames. On the F100fd, check the left edge of photos for a pink band; Wikipedia says a firmware update did not fix it.

  4. 4

Check what comes in the box

The F10 and F30 charge in the camera from an AC adapter, and the F450's charging cradle is part of the kit. A listing with the adapter or cradle, the battery and an xD card saves you hunting for each piece.

  5. 5

Set the date, then switch it off and on

An iFixit commenter says FinePix cameras keep the clock on a small capacitor, not a battery, so the date resets once it fails with age. Decide whether that matters to you before you pay.

Common Fujifilm FinePix problems and what fixing them costs

Owner repair questions on iFixit and reviewer notes point to the same handful of faults on aging FinePix cameras.

Lens error: the lens will not extend or retract

Raised in 1 opinion

How you notice
A zoom or lens error on power-up, with the lens stuck part-way or fully out. iFixit says it most often follows a drop.
Fix
Restart the camera, which iFixit says can clear a lens error. If it stays stuck, it needs a repair or parts from a donor camera.
Typical cost
No US repair-shop price found. A for-parts F30 was listed at $35 on Poshmark in October 2026, a realistic donor price.

Broken, cracked or stuck battery door

Raised in 5 opinions

How you notice
A cracked door, a snapped catch so the door will not stay shut, or a door stuck closed. Owners report it on rugged XP models and the AX665, and iFixit's Z1 troubleshooting page lists a cracked door.
Fix
iFixit's Z1 guide says to buy a replacement door. For a broken catch, an iFixit helper suggests a faulty, parts-only camera of the same model as a donor.
Typical cost
No professional repair price found.

Camera will not power on, or shuts off when you shoot

Raised in 2 opinions

How you notice
No response with a charged battery, or a camera that shuts down when you press the shutter, as an A350 owner reports.
Fix
Take out the battery and card, clean the contacts with an ink eraser or a clean cloth, and try a battery you know is good. On AA models, bend flattened battery contacts up slightly. If it still will not start, iFixit points to an internal switch or the main board.
Typical cost
No sourced repair quote found; a battery you know is good is the first thing to try.

Memory card errors, or an xD card the camera or reader will not read

Raised in 2 opinions

How you notice
A memory card error on screen, or a newer Type M or Type H xD card that an older camera or reader handles badly.
Fix
Format the card in the camera, which iFixit's answer says the camera needs before it can use a card. Wikipedia says later Type M and H cards may have compatibility problems with some older cameras, so check the card type against the camera, and check that your reader lists xD and M cards.
Typical cost
No verified current price for xD cards; budget for a card and an xD reader on top of the camera.

Defective CCD on the F410, F700 and A303 (2005 service advisory)

Raised in 1 opinion

How you notice
A purple cast, multi-colored distortion or completely black pictures, which can show on the screen while shooting or in playback.
Fix
In 2005 Fujifilm offered to repair affected US units free of charge. It was a service advisory, not a recall, and we found no current Fujifilm page confirming it is still open, so test these models before buying or skip them.
Typical cost

Date and time reset every time the camera is switched on

Raised in 1 opinion

How you notice
The clock goes back to a default date such as 01.01.2000 after every power cycle.
Fix
An iFixit commenter says FinePix cameras keep the clock on a small capacitor soldered to the main board, and it fails with age. The posted workaround is to swap batteries very quickly.
Typical cost
No repair price found.

Prices checked on November 2, 2026. They move every week, so treat them as a range, not a quote. These are asking prices, not sale prices. eBay sold listings need a sign-in, so the eBay range is The Phoblographer's from February 2025, and The Light Slide's $20 is what its writer paid for an F450 Zoom around 2022 (the article calls the camera 18 years old). Mercari and Etsy listings could not be checked by our scripts, so they are left out.

Questions people ask about the Fujifilm FinePix

Is the Fujifilm FinePix a good camera?

It depends on the model. The 2006 F30 and F31fd were standouts: Trusted Reviews said the F30 had the best high-ISO picture quality of any compact on the market, and What Digital Camera found the F31fd quick to start and focus. Budget models drew weaker reviews: Trusted Reviews found the J10's controls fiddly, and CNET could not recommend the waterproof Z33WP for low light or action.

What kind of memory card does a Fujifilm FinePix take?

The F10, F20, F30 and F31fd take xD-Picture Cards only, in sizes up to 2 GB. The F40fd added SD support (but not SDHC), and the A900 and F200EXR take SD as well. If you buy an xD card, check your reader: an F11 owner warns that not every reader works with Type M cards.

How do you adjust shutter speed on a Fujifilm FinePix?

Only some models let you. On the F30, shutter-priority mode sets speeds from 1/1000 s to 3 s, and aperture-priority mode uses 1/2000 s to 1/4 s; What Digital Camera notes that the M on its dial is not true manual. The F11 added the same two modes to the F10, which is otherwise fully automatic apart from a long exposure mode.

Why won't my Fujifilm FinePix turn on?

Start with power. Take out the battery and card, clean the battery contacts with an ink eraser or a clean cloth, and try a battery you know is good. On AA models, iFixit says flattened battery contacts can stop the camera from starting, and bending them up slightly fixes it. If it still will not start, the fault may be an internal switch or the main board.

Why is my FinePix not letting me take pictures?

Check the card first: iFixit's answer to a memory card error is that the card must be formatted in the camera before the camera can use it, and a locked SD card cannot be written to at all. A lens error after a drop, or autofocus that hunts without locking, as one F50fd owner reports, can also stop you shooting. If a lens error shows at start-up, iFixit says a restart can clear it.

How long does a Fujifilm FinePix last?

We found no lifespan figure from Fujifilm. One S5000 owner says their camera served them perfectly for almost ten years before its screens went white. The faults owners bring to iFixit are mostly broken door catches, stuck lenses and clocks that reset because a small capacitor has aged, so buy a camera that was tested recently.

Are Fujifilm FinePix cameras expensive now?

Most are not. Used FinePix compacts were listed at $88 to $105 on Poshmark in October 2026, and The Phoblographer called the F10 one of the more affordable offerings at $75 to $130 on eBay in February 2025. Graded cameras from a shop were priced higher: K&M Camera's last prices for used FinePix models were $179.99 and $199.99, both out of stock.

Which Fujifilm FinePix takes the best photos?

Among compacts, reviewers singled out the F30 and F31fd: Neocamera said the F30 outdid every other ultra-compact on image quality, and a longtime Fuji owner calls the F31fd a favorite for its tremendous detail. A TalkPhotography member names the later Super CCD models as the golden goose of the range, while The Light Slide prefers the plain-CCD F450 Zoom for its "vintage CCD colors".
