WPPI is coming up in mid-February which may seem a ways out, but if you are going, you should make your plans today. What is WPPI? WPPI is the yearly convention for wedding and portrait photographers. At WPPI you will find some amazing speakers, a huge expo floor, and a wonderful community of fellow photographers. Should you go? What should you do there? Hopefully this GoCast will answer those questions.

Jim Collins, CEO of Pictage at WPPI 2010

This week at WPPI I got to spend a few minutes with Jim Collins, the CEO of Pictage and talk about some of the new pricing and features that are coming to the Pictage platform. With new pricing plans from entry level to Pro and a whole new interface coming soon, Pictage is really moving forward in helping photographers to build their print business.

PocketWizard at WPPI 2010

It’s really hard to beat the flexibility and power of modern speedlites but often getting them to fire remotely can be an exercise in frustration due to issues with line-of-sight, interference, or even just your equipment having a bad hair day. PocketWizard products aim to change that with their line of remote triggers. Last year PocketWizard announced the FlexTTL system for Canon shooters and this year there is a handful of news about updates, the new Zone Controller, and even some news for Nikon shooters. From dozens of top-notch industry professionals talking about everything from technique, to marketing, to branding, to Photoshop, to basically everything you need to have a successful photography business. Yes, we know the sound isn’t awesome but we had some hardware problems and couldn’t find a replacement mic at Best Buy, Fry’s, Sony Store, or any of the electronics stores that litter the strip so we had to make due with what we had, hopefully you can still get the goods on what was going on there.

PocketWizard announces ETTL compatible wireless control system

The only thing better than being able to do off-camera flash is the ability to do it wirelessly. The problem is that the remote control systems that are builting into today’s cameras are lacking in a number of important features, especially for Canon users that have to rely on infrared signals which limits range and flexibility. The industry standard has been to use PocketWizard devices to control your flashes but even as good as those were, you were stuck having to use manual control of your flashes. Here at WPPI PocketWizard has announced a complete new system that supports the TTL systems for Canon and Nikon.

MiniTT1 – Canon

WPPI Highlights Part 1

This WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) has been a great show already with tons of great speakers, two huge ballrooms of vendors, and lots of great networking with other photographers. Unfortunately you can’t be in multiple places at the same time so you have to pick and choose which speakers to go see. Right off the bat I headed over to see David Ziser. David was testing out some new material for his upcoming Digital Wake-Up Tour and if this talk is any indication, the tour is going to be a must-attend if you want to take your images to a whole new level. David discussed off-camera lighting to add depth, detail, dimension, and color saturation to your images. Go sign up and reserve your seat now.

Want to make your shooting easier so you do less cropping in post production? CropLines has the answer with engraved focus screens for 8×10, Rue of thirds, school portrait, or other designs so that you can nail your image in-camera.

Many photographers use or are considering flash brackets so that you can keep your accessory flash above your camera regardless of whether or not you have your camera in its vertical or horizontal position. Kerry and David Make it to Vegas – Barely

On what is normally a 4 – 4.5 hour drive, Kerry and David endure 6 hours of drive time, very cold weather, the beginnings of a snow storm, and then an hour long wait at the front desk (at midnight) to get their room.Â Just after getting through the last pass into Vegas, the snowstorm forced the pass to close, but Team Dojo is now safe and sound and ready to share their experience with Dojo readers.
