Camera Dojo is a site dedicated to helping people get the most out of their photography by providing good quality tutorials, product reviews, and an active forum. CameraDojo.com was created by orange county photographer Kerry Garrison (http://kerrygarrison.com) in January of 2007. Kerry writes several articles a week for the website and in May of 2008 he started the weekly Camera Dojo podcast which is now one of the top photography podcasts in iTunes. Along with Kerry are several key contributors who provide content, editing, and help product the weekly podcast.

The Camera Dojo Difference

What separates Camera Dojo from the vast majority of other photography blogs is that Camera Dojo strives to educate its readers rather than deliver just news and simple product reviews.

Camera Dojo is adding video segments to almost all articles made up of original content (Product Reviews, Tutorials, etc) to help add to the immersion of the reader into the content.

Who is Kerry Garrison
Writer / Publisher / Podcast Host
Kerry is a orange county based wedding, portrait and commercial photographer who has come out from behind the lens to create Camera Dojo, a website and companion podcast that helps photography enthusiasts hone their skills. Whether he is writing tutorials, doing product reviews, or working on the podcast, Kerry believes in paying-it-forward to give back for all the help he got from other photographers when he was getting started.

Kerry knows his way around the camera and offers his unique perspective about learning the craft of photography and making the most out of the tools and equipment you have at your disposal. With years of teaching experience under his belt, Kerry can take difficult or complicated topics and explain them in a way that makes it simple for anyone to follow and yet detailed enough to help teach the topic properly. Kerry is sponsored by Westcott who supply equipment for him to use in his portrait and lighting workshops.

The Camera Dojo Marketing Philosophy
The Camera Dojo approach is to align with key vendors as a marketing vehicle for the products and services from those vendors. Instead of just doing a single product review and being finished with a product, we try whenever possible to use the same products over and over to continue to promote those products in ongoing tutorials. This is why you won’t see a dozen articles on the same product from different manufacturers, this way Camera Dojo can provide a top-notch marketing presence for its key partners.

Advertising on Camera Dojo
The basic advertising package on CameraDojo.com comprises of a mixed marketing campaign consisting of the following:

  • Banner ad (300×104) on the right side navigation
  • 30 second commercial spot in the weekly podcast
  • Several video articles showcasing your products

Rate Packages

Three months for $1,200
Six months for $1,800
Twelve months for $3,300

Additional Marketing Opportunities
Throughout the year there will be multiple opportunities to participate in workshops and seminars presented by Kerry Garrison. At some of these events it will be appropriate to demonstrate products from different key partners. At larger events, table space may be available to sell products.

Prior to each event, key partners will be told about the event and presented with any opportunities to participate.

Additionally, different contests and drawings will be held throughout the year that key vendors will be able to participate in. These drawings and contests can provide additional visibility to key partners by promoting those vendors in articles, podcasts, and podcast show notes.

Industry Recognition
Camera Dojo is getting recognition throughout the industry with mentions from major blogs such as David Ziser’s Digital Pro Talk, being featured on iTunes, and being mentioned in email blasts from Apple Computer.

What’s Coming Up at Camera Dojo
At the beginning of the summer of 2009, polls on Camera Dojo showed that the biggest issue that the readers are having is understanding lighting. To help our readers we have started doing lighting and portrait tutorials. FJ Westcott is providing some lighting gear to allow us to write articles about constant lights, strobe lights, and speed lights and RadioPoppers is going to provide gear for remote flash triggering. Equipment from several other companies will play key roles in this large series of articles.
