Hey guys! Great show… kinda makes me want to get a Canon and start playing with that despite being a Nikon kid. The stuff you all talked about sounded really cool – but I can't just jump ship and switch to Canon gear (between me and my fiance, we've got the D40 and D90 camera bodies and almost 7 lenses — the 35mm f/1.8 is on backorder – and I'm a poor grad student). I know Nikon has cameras that have similar capabilities as the ones you two were talking about. Just a thought, since you two happen to geek out about your Canons, would you ever consider having a Nikon photographer geek out about their Nikon gear? Or any other brand gear that they happen to own. It would be kinda cool for us non-Canon peeps.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the comment & I know what you're talking about with switching brands. I used to be on Minolta when they rocked the industry. Then they went digital (which was "ok") and dumped everything to Sony. That was when I ponied up on my credit cards & swallowed a huge jagged pill going to Canon.
Nikon is a totally rockin' camera line & I'm confident that what you have & growing into other cameras in the future with Nikon will exceed all your needs.
I'll totally chat with Kerry & see what he thinks about bringin on a non-canon shooter to geek out with.
I hope you're having a great start to your holiday week – cheers!

I'm glad you are happy with your new cameras as I am with my new D700. But after listening to this one, you might want to rename to Canon Camera Dojo.

You might be missing the point. We were pointing out the features of the new gear that made us finally upgrade from our existing gear. The new Nikon's are very similair in that their new bodies have many of the same new features as the new Canon's and that people may want to look at the features we discussed as to wether or not they may want to upgrade for the same reasons.
Yes we shoot Canon gear, but not because Nikon gear is sub-standard. David moved to Canon from Minolta about 3.5 years ago mostly because other people he knew had Canon gear. I switched from Olympus to Canon because David was using Canon and it allows us to use each other's equipment. Again, not because I thought Nikon's were worse than Canon, but more so because of the convenience. If one of us has a failure we can borrow each other's lenses, flashes, etc.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the comment & I would love to call it that, but only when Canon cuts us a check. LOL!
All fun aside – much of what I'm thinking is what Kerry said. When I made the jump back in '05 to Canon from Minolta – it was tough and more harshly… expensive. But I found that Canon fit my style of form & function more than Nikon.
in some ways Nikon kicks Canon's arse & vice-versa. Both are fantastic brands with extraordinary equipment, it's just a matter of what works for each one.
When I held a D700 (I think that was what it was) in Vegas at WPPI, I drooled big time because it's a beautiful piece of equipment built to exacting standards. It just want's for me with the form.
I hope that sheds some light on where we were coming from & thanks so much for sharing your thoughts as well – cheers!

You guys do great and the excitement of you explaining your new gear was worth the listen. Didn't mean to touch a nerve or start a brand war. I do agree with Juniorshutterbug that some diversity would be nice. Keep it up and keep the excitement going. I have Nikon friends here which serves the same purpose Kerry mentioned of sharing equipment in moments of need. Thanks steve

Hey Steve,
Good evening & totally didn't take it that way at all. I think that it was great that you brought it up & it gave us an opportunity to expand a bit as I'm sure that other people were possibly thinking that too.
I hope you're having a great night & I'll chat with you soon – cheers!

Wow… there was a great convo that went on!
The Nikon D700 is definitely drool-worthy. The want for a D300 might be set aside for one of those. But, all I know about these cameras are from the things I've heard and read, unfortunately I haven't had a chance to try them out.
Anyway, I think the idea of having a person shooting with another brand to come on and geek out about their gear would be a great idea.
Maybe I'll geek out about how cool my prime 35mm f/1.8 lens when I finally get it… still on backorder! Though it has been out for a while …..and there's tons of reviews on-line… and I am a newbie, so I couldn't talk about it as eloquently as our dojo masters here . I dunno. What do you think

Just wanted to give you a "thanks" for the new equipment discussion. I recently upgraded my main camera too and just love the newer features, especially the higher iso capabilities. The larger display is another nice feature. Keep up the great shows.

Hey Bryant,
Good morning & thanks for the comment! The larger display is pretty cool on the MarkII & I like the auto brightness feature too. Although the first time it did it in on my body – I thought I had a defective body because I forgot about it. D'oh!
I hope you're having a great holiday weekend – cheers!
