Podcast #125 – Team Dojo Discusses Lenses

Team Dojo all gets together to talk about a handful of different topics including what kinds of lenses are best for portraits, which are our favorite lenses, and which lenses we take to every job.  The team also has a discussion about how many megapixels do you need for what you are shooting. Chris, Debra, and Kerry also talk about having to deal with constraint and not having a ton of gear to use.

    Hi,

I was listening to the podcast and I found the discussion about cropping down a picture to make up for the need of a 400 mm lens in a mirror less camera interesting. I think that discussion assumes that someone would only use a mirror less camera. I think they would be different tools for different uses, so if you need to shoot for large prints, similar to large format cameras today, then you would probably buy a really high sensor camera. But, If you need a 400 mm lens, then probably you would not buy a system that doesn't offer that range.

Do you think that cameras will further specialize, instead of focusing on one to rule them all?

    Thanks,
    Miguel

The conversation wasn't specific to mirrorless cameras but to high megapixel cameras. If you know you are shooting for large prints you need more megapixels. If you know you are not shooting for large prints then you have more latitude when it comes to cropping.
