I started my first personal project last February. I guess I'm a bit different, because the project is fairly ambitious: shooting all 120+ state parks in Washington state. I've been plugging away at it, and I've already visited a little more than 50.

It can be challenging, because a lot of the parks are pretty much the same, so I have to look hard for differences. Sometimes, though, a park is unique, and that's a thrill.

I agree that everybody should do a personal project to better your skills. A much better reason is that it gives you an excuse to get out there and shoot!

Another great show, One of my personal projects is called "Nevada Characters" in which I do a little photo series with story of there life. Either a event, activity or a summery of there life. To many great people move on with out any record of there life and believe it or not without any photos. Im also going to do this in video and is a service my studio is going to start offering.

The start of my Nevada Characters face book page. http://www.facebook.com/brianlbateman?ref=ts#!/pa
