This was by far my favorite podcast, though they are all really good. Totally confirmed my own feelings about my work recently. I know what I want and love to shoot and my own ideas on where I want to go. No more following the crowds, but going to follow my gut and take my work my way.

Thanks so much!

Shoot what you love, do what you enjoy. If you don't like people, than shooting weddings may not be for you. If you enjoy hiking and the outfoors, than perhaps fine art nature photography is for you. If you are trying to be even more granular, like defining more of a niche within a genre like weddings then you need to discover what part of that work you enjoy. For me, I love lighting and the technical aspects so I focus on that.

Do you have any specific suggestions about the process of figuring out what your niche is? Gene mentioned that clients will tell you what they love about your work, but I was wondering if you have anything else to add to that (other than press the shutter more often!).
