good review. It's nice to see somebody else addressing practical concerns like computing horsepower, a point that you rarely see addressed. I had to fork out another 2 grand on a top of the line PC (overclocked and loaded with so much horsepower it treats those 21 megapixel files as if they were little GIFs grabbed off of the internet), something I didn't entirely anticipate when I first started editing on my old Mac G4 computer. I've had the 5D mark ii for many months now and in retrospect the best aspect of the camera has been the stellar high iso performance. Aside from that, the pictures taken and printed from my rebel XSi are of relatively the same caliber quality - they're both great. You hear many wise people say that it's the operator of the camera that makes great photos, not the camera - and I can now say that it's very true. BTW, I do wedding photography also, and I agree on all of the points you made in your review.

The increased megapixels does not add to the focal length but yes, it does allow you to crop more. That is a big advantage of Full Frame + More megapixels is that you have a lot more data to work with.

Good review. Something I have been trying to wrap my head around how FF and APS-C sensors are always compared to magnifying the focal length of a lenses by 1.6.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is only true if you use the entire image or the MP are the same in both cameras.

With the high 21MP resolution of the 5D, cropping it down to the 10MP of the 40D would essentially be the same effect as a zoom due to a cropped sensor.

I'm still not sure if my logic is correct but the increase in MP of the new 5D more then makes up for any lost focal length due to full frame.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is only true if you use the entire image or the MP are the same in both cameras.

thank you so much for taking the time to write up your impressions even with only having it for a few days! We've added this to the 5D wiki at planet5d.com We've got more 5D reviews/still/video samples than anywhere else on the planet.

Great article the high ISO performanace is phenominal!

I'm sure the high ISO performance and possible video features will appeal especially to wedding photographers.

I have both the 5dmk2 and a 30D. Vast difference, though if price is even a consideration I would stick to the 50D. I'd take a 50D with a 24mm f1.4 (or any prime) over the 5D. But since I'm saturated on lenses that are begging for a FF camera, I took the plunge.

I did a quick vid the day I got it that really shows the shallow DOF:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVkqAEg7iFI
